Why Multiple stays independent.

You may have noticed that recently, Multiple has been talking more about independence lately on social media. There’s a reason for that.

The headlines haven’t been subtle. Large holding companies and corporations are navigating restructuring, layoffs, and strategic pivots that lean hard into efficiency. It’s a useful reminder of what can happen when agencies are ultimately accountable to shareholders first.

To be clear, big agencies do exceptional work. There are incredibly talented people inside those organizations solving complex problems every day, despite bogging down clients with process or bureaucracy.

We’ve never been more confident in our decision to build and remain independent.

Intentionally Independent

Multiple chose independence from day one. Being an independently-owned design agency is an intentional decision that shapes how we work, who we work with, and what we’re able to accomplish. No parent company means no divided priorities. No shareholder pressure means client outcomes come first. No legacy processes means we adapt our approach to what you actually need.

Principles Over Processes

Being independent means our principles guide solutions. When a client needs a brand strategy, we start with their specific challenge, their audience, their market reality – not a template from the last project.

We have processes. They just work for us, not against us. No corporate mandate forcing specific frameworks. No rigid systems that prioritize consistency over effectiveness. It’s adaptable by design. It supports the thinking — it doesn’t constrain it.

Why It Matters: A Client Perspective

The difference shows up in practice. Our clients experience what happens when strategy, creativity, and execution aren’t siloed across departments. When senior talent isn’t spread across 50 accounts. When the people making decisions are the same people doing the work

“Multiple has a remarkable way of bringing order to complexity. They helped us navigate a deeply layered conversation — balancing legacy, ambition, and global perspectives — with clarity and confidence. What could have been overwhelming became an inspiring, focused process.”

Charles Mutscheller — Marketing Director, Council on Vertical Urbanism

Independence means direct access to the team. It means faster decisions without navigating layers of approval. It means partnerships built on shared goals and people who actually know each other, not just transactional relationships managed through account coordinators.

We’re independent, so our clients get us and our undivided attention. The results speak for themselves.

Mindset Matters

Our mindset isn’t just a way of thinking – it’s a way of working that drives clarity, creativity, and measurable value. We build teams of people who approach work a certain way and bring a clear mindset to client work every day – strategic thinking, tactical execution, beautiful solutions.
This is what’s possible when you build a team around how they think, not just what they’ve done.

Stay Independent. Stay Authentic.
We stay independent to stay authentic.

Just like any relationship, there are organizations where we’re the perfect fit and those where we’re not – and that’s okay. We’ve been referred in by clients we trust. We’ve referred out to partners who are better suited for certain challenges. Our goal is simple: make sure every challenge gets the best possible solution, even if it’s not us.

That’s allowed us to work with clients for years – some for over a decade. These aren’t contracts. They’re partnerships built on direct access, shared goals, and people who actually know each other.

When you’re independent, every client relationship is personal.

What Independence Enables

Independence isn’t the right model for every agency. But for Multiple, it’s been foundational.

It’s given us the autonomy to build around principles, hire for mindset, and show up authentically in every client relationship. We measure success by the quality of our partnerships and whether our team wants to stay and build something meaningful together.

Here’s to building independent agencies that translate complexity into clarity and ideas into measurable impact — for business, for people, and for the planet.
